This rug was handwoven by sisters, Fatima and Naima.
Fatima and Naima belong to a female-only weaving association just outside of Tazenakht, a town known for its weaving history.
This design is inspired by a vintage rug that their aunt made over 20 years ago.
The sisters used 100% "live" sheep's wool that they cleaned, brushed and spun themselves.
It’s thought that this checkerboard design symbolizes barley and could be a wish for fertility for the weaver, or for the rug’s final home.
